About Me
Hi! My name is Kayla, I'm a third-year creative and therapeutic art student, studying at the University of South Wales. Art has always been an interest of mine and a way in which I could express thoughts and feelings without the need to use words. Having an understanding of the benefit that engagement in art can have on well-being is what drew me to this course. I previously studied fashion and textiles at college, however, I did not see this as a career path I wanted to progress in, although, I do still bring in elements from this to my current work, such as the frequent use of textiles throughout my art pieces. I also enjoy using themes of nature and I am particularly drawn to mushrooms. I include nature in my art practise as well as my professional practice while working with participants, I have also recently found a new love in clay and thoroughly enjoy its therapeutic properties that I experience through its sensory process and expect to increase the use of clay in my practice. I am kind and compassionate and take a calm approach to my practice. Art made has a focus on the process and aims to achieve an increase in well-being. I incorporate mindfulness activities in to my practice in order to create a relaxed and present experience for those participating.
