Therapeutic Space on Wheels, 2021

Wool, acrylic paints on acetate sheets, beads, oranges, rice, mesh, sweet wrappers, cotton, twine, coloured self-adhesive paper, led lights.

I created this therapeutic space to benefit customers that I take out as a care worker, to get to hospital appointments or go shopping for example. I care for people with a diverse range of needs and medical conditions and wanted the customers to have a pleasant and relaxing experience. To achieve this, I researched the different senses we have as humans and created a surrounding that could increase the well-being of those in it space, along with many other positive effects. I included handmade components throughout the car such as crochet blankets for their sense of touch, scent pouches and dried oranges to stimulate their sense of smell, bright colours in the paintings on the windows and lights for their sense of sight and a playlist of natural sounds within nature for their sense of sound.
